Constitution Day! Last night it got a little rocky on the MS Trollfjord but I managed to sleep through it. All of the Norwegians are celebrating National Constitution Day and many are wearing traditional Norwegian costumes and in the morning there was a mini parade around the top deck. We went down and enjoyed our first buffet breakfast. The amount of options was overwhelming! I had: 2 over-easy eggs, 2 meatballs, 3 small pieces of bacon, 2 chunks of fried potato, 1 piece of Norwegian clove cheese (VERY GOOD), smoked salmon, 2 cups of coffee with cream and 2 small pieces of coffee cake with apples. Yummy!! I also tried two new kinds of pickled herring, one in a mayo sauce and one in a mustard sauce (okay). (Go here to see the breakfast buffet options aboard the MS Trollfjord). The dining room was busy but we found a table in the back. Even though many people were finished eating, those who had scored a window seat were not eager to give them up. An Asian tourist fell right in front of me in the buffet line but she was okay, the ship didn’t seem exceptionally rocky, but obviously some were having a hard time adjusting. I was glad I had my scopolamine patch on.
Most of the people onboard are foreign, I’ve only heard 2 other couples speaking American English and I’ve only seen 3 other couples/families who are our age and the “families” have 8-12 year-old kids. We are quite content to be away from American tourists! And don’t mind being around older people. After breakfast we went to deck 8 to enjoy the panoramic views and are just relaxing and admiring the spectacular scenery. It would be so awesome to do this trip in the winter with snow on all the mountains and seeing the northern lights!
At noon we went to the cafeteria to order lunch. Marc had a “chicken burger” with fries and a salad, and I had salmon/potatoes/veggies. Mine was 139 krone and Marc’s was 159 krone, plus 40 krone for a Coke. My fish dish was enough to feed 2 people, it had a delicious cream sauce so Marc couldn’t try any. After lunch we went to the town of Alesund and wandered around for an hour.
Back to ship and I am feeling soooo sleepy! I took a 30 min. nap then had a coffee to try and wake up. We did a load of laundry and then had dinner in the cafeteria, a burger for Marc and an open-face shrimp and mayo sandwich for me. I did 30 min on the bike in the exercise room and then went in the sauna but it didn’t feel very hot. I took off the scopolamine because it was making me exhausted. We watched the scenery passing by and finished our laundry and went to bed early.
