We are docked in Trondheim and I am super excited for the excursion we signed up for—a bike tour of Trondheim! Apparently Trondheim is a very bike friendly town and I am soooo excited to see it on the best way for me to get around—on a bike. I finally got my best night’s sleep of the trip and only woke up once with a scratchy throat. This morning for breakfast I had: yogurt with granola, almonds, sunflower seeds, and hazelnuts, 1 cup of coffee, cucumbers, bell peppers, apples, and a small amount of omelet. I have been craving lighter food, everything has been so heavy!
After breakfast we disembarked for our bike tour. There were about 2 dozen people signed up, half were English speaking and half were German. We got fitted for our bikes then took off. The town is really cool and we were able to cover a lot of it on bikes. There was a gothic cathedral which seemed out of place somehow. The guide gave us lots of interesting info and it wasn’t really much of a workout since we kept stopping every few minutes.
Back at the ship, Marc and I scored some window seats in the beautiful wood-paneled bar area.
We are holding out for a “splurge” buffet lunch in the restaurant. It is 329 krone per person and I don’t even want to know how much that is in US dollars! I had:
2 kinds of smoked salmon
2 kinds of smoked cod
roasted potatoes with thyme
beef in gravy
brie, blue and some other cheese on bread
baked white fish
crusty bread roll
2 types of caviar, just to try (GROSS)
2 cups of coffee with cream
and for dessert!
Chocolate, raspberry and vanilla mousse cake, white cake with layers of mousse
Obviously Norwegians like mousse! I was SO FULL. Marc and I sat at a 4-top and a woman from San Diego sat next to us and talked for most of the meal which was super annoying.
After lunch we spent most of the day watching scenery, relaxing, playing cards etc. Marc kicked my butt at Quiddler. At 6:00 we went to the bar and Marc got a Mack Porter which is a Norwegian beer for 99 krone. I didn’t even have room for a beer.
I rode the stationary bike for an hour to try and work off some of the massive calories I’d had. Marc decided he was hungry at 7:30, so he ordered 3 kinds of sausage/bratwurst and fries. There was a lamb sausage, pork sausage, and reindeer!!! sausage, it was about 140 krone. I decided to go in the Arctic Pool, it wasn’t very hot, but it felt like heaven watching the scenery from the spa and I was the only one in it.
Back on the 8th deck, watching the sun set at 10:00 PM. Marc is going to bed but I wanted to stay up as late as I could to enjoy our last night on the MS Trollfjord. I listened to Iron and Wine and First Aid Kit and enjoyed the scenery and ambiance of the ship. I ended up staying up until 11:15 and it was still light out.
